Also Known As:

A fiber optic stripper is designed to remove the protective coating, or jacket, from the optical fiber itself. Precision is crucial in this process to avoid damaging the delicate glass fiber, which can impair its performance

About:

A stripper may have multiple holes or notches for stripping different layers, such as the outer jacket, the strength members, and the buffer or cladding layers around the glass fiber. The blades are often pre-set at the factory to ensure that they cut to a specific depth, reducing the risk of cutting into the fiber itself.

Common Applications:

• Fiber Optic Splicing: Before fusion splicing or mechanical splicing of fibers, the protective coatings must be removed to allow for proper alignment and connection. Fiber strippers are used to strip away the jacket and coating without damaging the fiber.

• Fiber Optic Termination: In order to attach fiber optic connectors to the ends of fibers, the jacket and any buffer material must be cleanly removed. This ensures that the bare fiber can be inserted into the connector and secured in place..

• Cable Assembly ManufacturingWhen manufacturing fiber optic cables and assemblies, the fibers need to be prepared for integration into cables or devices. Fiber strippers are used extensively in these production environments.

• Maintenance and Repair: When repairing damaged fibers or replacing connectors, technicians must strip the fiber to remove any damaged sections or to prepare the fiber for a new connector.

• Fiber Testing: For optical testing, the protective coatings may need to be removed from the fiber ends to facilitate proper testing of the fiber's optical properties and signal integrity.

Features:

• Use for stripping 250 and 900 micron buffer coating to expose 125 micron cladded fiber
• Second hole for stripping 2-3 mm fiber jackets
• Pre-set at the factory—no adjustments needed
• Will not scratch or nick glass fiber
• All stripping surfaces are manufactured to precise tolerances to assure clean, smooth strips
• Comfort-grip, ergonomic handles
• Lock to hold tool closed when it is not in use

Standards:

IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission): The IEC sets international standards for all electrical, electronic, and related technologies, including optical fibers and cables, under the IEC 60793 and IEC 60794 series, among others.

TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association): TIA standards like TIA-598-C cover optical fiber color coding but also indirectly influence the design of tools used for handling optical fibers.

ISO (International Organization for Standardization): The ISO has various standards concerning optical fibers, like the ISO/IEC 11801 standard for generic cabling systems, which include requirements for fiber handling that tools should comply with.

Specification:

Fiber Size:
250/900 Micron
Type: 2-Hole

Construction:

The tool is often made of high-quality materials like carbon steel and may have rubberized handles for a firm grip. The stripping blades are precision manufactured to ensure accurate and clean removal of the fiber jacket without nicking the optical fiber.
