You have two main options depending on your installation method:
- Direct Burial: Use UF-B cable if you plan to trench and bury the wire without conduit. It’s moisture-resistant and durable enough to go straight into the ground.
- In Conduit: If you prefer conduit for extra protection, go with THWN-2 wire in a PVC conduit. This method is more code-flexible and easier to upgrade later.
Make sure to size your wire based on distance and load. For example, a 60-amp subpanel 100 feet away may need #6 AWG copper or #4 AWG aluminum, depending on voltage drop.
