Hook-up Wire: Understanding The Variety Part 2

Last time, we introduced you to hook-up wires and some of their popular varieties. Let us walk you through the rest of the hook-up wires sold by Nassau National Cable. Our range of hook-up wires is capable of fulfilling every specific need a hook-up wire can fulfill.

Hook-Up Lead EPDM Ul 3340/3374 Tinned Copper Wire is the lead wire with the maximum temperature of 125°C for flex and 150°C for no-flex applications. The cable is rated 600 V and CSA-listed as a coil lead. It has a tinned copper conductor and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer insulation that is flexible, durable, and resistant to moisture. The cable fits the requirements of UL Standard 758  for Styles 3340 and 3374. The difference between this cable and Hook Up Lead Wire AWM UL 3340-3374 is that the latter also meets CSA AWM and CSA CL 1503 requirements. While the difference between these types of cables is quite subtle, contact our 24/7 support if you need help choosing.

Bare Copper Hook-Up Wire UL 1283/1284 is a wire with a bare copper conductor, which makes it different from almost any hook-up wire on the market. This cable's conductor is flexible and lightweight, which makes it perfect for applications that call for an easy installation. While this cable is relatively cheaper than tinned copper counterparts, please be aware that it is not suitable for high humidity. The maximum temperature is 105°C for continuous use. As an MTW wire, the maximum recommended temperature is 90°C. This wire can also be used as THHW according to UL Standard 83. It meets several flame compliances and has a  sunlight- resistant PVC jacket. It is rated at 600 V.

Tinned Copper Hook-Up Wire UL 1232/1283/1284 is a wire with a tinned copper conductor and a PVC jacket. The maximum temperature is 105°C for continuous use at 600V. Just like the previous cable, it can be used as an MTW at 90°C and as a THHW according to UL Standard 83. It also meets UL 1011/1015/1028/BC-5W2 and CSA AWM I A/B & TEW. Basically, this  cable is very similar to a previous installment, but it has a tinned copper conductor more usual  hookup wires, making it better in humidity.

Hook Up Lead Wire AWM 3499 is very different from most hook-up wires as it is meant for high voltage applications. The maximum recommended temperature is 150°C for use at 7500V. It meets UL Standard 758 - Style 3499 for high-voltage applications. The cable has a stranded tinned copper conductor and an EPDM insulation that is flexible, durable, and resistant to moisture and UV.

XLPE Cross Link Hook Up Wire UL 3173 is a lead wire with an XLPE insulation that has excellent tensile strength and is resistant to chemicals and oils. The cable is recommended for use at 600 Volts and 125°C.  The standards met by this cable include UL 3173/3195/3196/3237, CSA CL 1251, CSA AWM I A/B, and UL SIS. Because of the insulation, the cable is suitable for tough industrial applications in internal wiring.
