What is the ampacity of 22 AWG Wire?

22 AWG wire is a thin, low-current electrical copper wire for low-voltage applications like electronics and LED lighting.

The ampacity of 22 AWG copper wire is 7 amps in free air and up to 5 amps either enclosed on in a bundle. 22 AWG wires are usually run for short distances, so that voltage drop is not much of a concern. Most applications for which 22 AWG wire is used will only call for 1-3 amps of continuous current.

The approximate diameter of a 22 AWG wire is 0.0253 inches (0.643 mm) for solid wire and 0.030 inches (0.762 mm) for stranded.
