Thermoplastic vs. Thermoset vs. Fluoropolymer Cable Jacket
Most insulations and jackets on the wire and cable market are made of thermoplastic, thermoset, or fluoropolymer materials. Each of these insulations comes with a set of unique benefits and drawbacks. Thermoplastic insulation, such as PVC, is flexible and easy to work with. Thermoset insulation, like cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), has superior heat, moisture, and chemical resistance. Fluoropolymer insulation, such as PTFE, provides exceptional heat resistance, low friction, and excellent electrical properties. Read this infographic to compare the three based on different criteria.
